The grandeur building of the main Tokyo railway station is a real head-turner as well as the busiest transport hub of the city. Every day, over 450 000 people go through the doors of the impressive complex, and while it serves over 4000 trains! It's one of the two stations in Tokyo where you can catch a Shinkansen and the only one providing a direct connection with the Narita International Airport via a Narita Express train.
Interestingly, the rumor has it that the talented architect who designed the biggest Shinkansen station in Tokyo, Tatsuno Kingo, found his inspiration in the middle of Amsterdam. The styles of both Tokyo's bullet train station and Amsterdam Centraal Station seem vaguely similar with their majestic towers and facades of brown brick, but don't fall for this popular hearsay. The theory was recently proved to be wrong by Terunobu Fujimori. |
